The Red Liquid

He stood there watching with horror. The man in red liquid fallen in one of the garbage boxes. The boy who saw was shocked. He was unable to move a muscle. His body sweating, his heart racing like a Ferrari. He could not just look anywhere else. He fell down, into a deep black pit, in his worst nightmares. He fell unconscious.

The next day he woke up in a way no one could imagine. His body was paralyzed, he could only use his head and nothing else. He was in a hospital. In one of the intensive care units. He tried to move his head but he just couldn’t.

“Son, how are you feeling?” asked one of the doctors.

“Mmm…Hmmm…Baaa…,” he said. He was unable to speak.

“My name is Jack Price, I am your doctor can you understand?”

Just then his mother who was staring through the window of the room, rushed in, watching her son awake.

“Nathan! Nathan! My boy are you okay!” she screamed. She broke into tears unable to hold her emotions any longer.

“Madam, please go out. This is not the time to meet him, he is shocked,” told Jack.

Then one of the nurses took the woman outside. She was still weeping.

An hour later the cops showed up. Asking for the boy who could not answer them and was of no use to them. The receptionist pointed the way to the room with her hand and the two cops went there. Knocking the door. Jack came out he was sad as this was the worst patient he had seen in his life.

“I am sorry officers, but the boy is in no condition to speak or do anything. He is paralyzed from his neck to his toes,” Jack said, in a gloomy way.

“We understand. The boy must be shocked. Do not worry we will find the killer, who killed that man and who is responsible for the boys problem” said one of the officers.

Then the cops left.

In the police station the person in charge of this case was detective Leonardo Brown. The two cops who had visited the hospital were standing in his office, waiting for him to finish the coffee that he was drinking.

“So, you both got any clues?” asked Brown, in a stern voice after finishing his coffee.

Leonardo Brown was about forty years old and he had got some wrinkles around his eyes and he had a bald head.

“No sir. The boy is paralyzed and he is not in the condition to talk right now,” said one of the cops.

“Okay, then we have to go the scene where this all started,” Brown said.

Brown went to the spot where this all had started. The police had sealed the area around the place where the body was found. Brown stood watching the spot. There were no other cops or detectives investigating and Brown liked it. He wanted his surroundings to be quiet when he would be investigating. He looked at the box and stared at the three floor tall building standing right above the bin.

His brain started to function at its top speed. He thought himself, imagining a scene in which he could try to crack the case.’ The man must have been beaten and thrown in the box or else he was pushed from the roof the building, there was no one to shoot him as there was no bullet found nearby or there was no gunshot heard or else the people would have reported the cops. He was not even stabbed as I have read the report from the forensics. The man got his spinal cord broken and he had internal bleeding in his head, he must have had a fight with someone. Maybe, he lost a bet and he had no money and he tried to run, the people who caught him, hit him black and blue, but the man was too stubborn to die and they took him to the roof and threw him from there. That is one of my theory.

Brown went on the roof of the building and took long look from above. Then he looked around him. There was a broken brick fallen near the ledge of the building, so perhaps the one who killed him called him upstairs to talk about something and when he came near the killer he hit him with the brick and since he did not die, he pushed him off the roof and he had a mighty fall. Or he was trying to escape from someone and he ran here and the one from whom he was running from saw him and followed him here and had a fight and then beat him and pushed him off the roof.

Brown took the brick and kept it in a packet for evidence. He kept on thinking, his mind could not stop. Then he went near the door through which he had come up, he noticed that there was a crack on the wall. He bowed down to study it. He noticed that someone had applied cement on it and the cement was still fresh or kind of. It was not so hard compared to the other walls. He removed a measuring tape from one of his pockets of his jacket. Then  he stretched out the tape and measured the length of the crack. It was nine inch long. Then he touched it. Then he looked nearby so that he could see something that he could use to break the wall. There was nothing. So he ran downstairs and went to his car he unlocked it and removed a bag which contained many tools.

He removed a hammer from the bag and he ran upstairs. He then hit the wall with the crack hard about three times and at last the wall broke. Something fell down from it along with the broken pieces of the wall it was a knife, a six inch knife.

Brown the police station and ran to the forensics department. He went to man who was talking with someone.

“James!” cried Brown.

“Leonardo, what happened?” asked James.

James was the head of the forensics department. He was a tall man, in his mid fifties and had a mustache.

“James! I found a knife in the building right opposite to the garbage bin where the body was found!” exclaimed Brown.

” What!”

” Yes. I went there to investigate and this is what I found along with a brick.”

Brown removed the knife and the brick. The knife was covered with cement so it was hard to find any fingerprints.

“See, if you can find something from it. Look at the brick too it might contain some blood, because it looks like there is something red liquid on it,” said Brown.

“I will try my best to find it,” said James.

Brown went to his house, still excited about the discoveries that he had had made. He drank a cup of milk and went off to sleep.

The next day he went to his office, hoping to find something interesting from the clues that could help him with the case. He went to the forensics department and asked for James, the receptionist that he had asked pointed her hand to his office. Brown rushed to his office and opened the door.

“So, did you find anything interesting?” asked Brown.

“Yeah I sure did. The thing is that this brick you gave me contains a red liquid, its rare mercury. The knife had been washed clean after the murder and was hidden in the wall, so I am sorry that the knife cannot be of much help, but it may be useful in the future perhaps,” answered James.

“What! The knife was washed clean! The murderer seems to be quite smart I think. So according to me I thing the man who was killed was perhaps poisoned in the beginning and then he was hit with the brick. The mercury was then spilled on the brick and the murderer hit him with the brick on his head, I suppose that it maybe the key to solving this case,” said Brown.

“No, Brown the thing is that the victim was never poisoned and there are no signs of mercury even on his head. Did you not read the report that was given to you?” asked James.

“No. I do not like to read the whole thing, I just like to read what is important and then I keep the report on my table. That is the way I do it,” answered Brown.

“You have got to read the whole report. It is not some useless thing that you can read whatever you want and throw it on the table!”

“Alright I will read it,” lied Brown.

Then Brown went back to the spot where the murder took place. He then went to the apartment that was right in front of the garbage bin. He decided to ask some questions to the people who lived in the block. He went in the first room. There were two rooms in each floor of the building. It contained five floors. Thinking that it must be tiring to ask so many questions to so many people, made him feel exhausted. Then he knocked the door.

The owner of the room opened the door. He was a short man the owner, he had a big beard.

“May I help you?” he asked.

“Well, hello. I am Leonardo Brown,” he said flashing his badge,”I wanted to ask you some questions about the murder that took place a few days ago.”

“Ah! Well please come in,” said the man.

“What is your name?”

“My name is John Davis.”

“Okay Mr.Davis so were you in your home when all of this had happened?”

“No. I was not, as I am a business man I have to go and take care of my shop.”

“What kind of business?”

“I have an electronics store.”

“Do you live alone in this house?”

Just then Brown’s phone rang, he picked it up.

“Sir, I am Jack….”

“What has happened? Why do you sound like as if you are afraid of something?” asked Brown.

“The boy has died,” he said.

“What! Wait I will arrive there shortly!”

“What happened, sir?” asked Davis.

“I am sorry Mr.Davis I will have to come another day,” Brown said and he left.

In the hospital the police were moving about the room. Brown saw Price and waved to him, so that he could meet him.

“What happened?” asked Brown.

“The boy was poisoned by some body last night. The doctors say that he was already dead in the morning,” Price said.

“What about forensic report?”

“The forensic team has got the body, they may give it to you in the evening.”

“Okay. Do whatever you have to do and fast.”

The minutes crept like hours and Brown was not able to wait any longer. He decided to go to the security room of the hospital and look if there was any video footage through which he could get something helpful. As he moved about about the corridor a doctor suddenly crashed with him. Both fell down.

“Hey! Watch where you are going!” he screamed and he walked out fast.

Brown did not care about it as he had other bigger problems to look after. As he reached the security room, he saw that the head of the crime department was already in the room, watching the videos.

“Hello, Roman,” greeted Brown.

“Hello? You think that this is the time to say hello? Two citizens of this fine country have died! And you say hello!” scolded Roman Michael.

“I know that you are in a bad mood, sir, but believe me I am trying my best to solve this case as soon as I can,” answered Brown.

“Listen Brown! I am giving you three days time and if you cant solve the case, you better find yourself another case!”

“Okay sir,” Brown said.

After staring at Brown for a few seconds Roman walked out of the room. Brown asked the security guard of the hospital to give him the video footage of the past two days. Then he took the DVD’s and went to his office.

As he sat in his office thinking about the murder of the boy, he started to think deeply on the murder case. Then he took the DVD’s and put them in his laptop and started playing them.

For about thirty minutes there was no one in the room except the boy until suddenly, a man appeared out of nowhere. Brown watched it with very keen interest.

The man had a bottle in his hand and a syringe too. Then he took some of the liquid from the bottle and then he took the syringe and injected the liquid in the boy’s arm. He did it three times. Until the pulse of the boy came to an end. Then the man turned. It was the man with whom Brown had crashed.

Brown had seen this man and he jumped up in excitement. He took out his phone and called Roman.

“I know who the killer is! Come to the place where you had found the body!” he said. Without hearing any reply he switched of his phone.

At the scene of crime he saw Roman rushing to him with one of his bodyguard.

” Follow me,” said Brown.

Brown was on cloud nine, he went into the apartment behind the crime scene. He knocked the door and a man came out. It was Davis.

“Mr.Davis, please tell why you killed the man and the boy?” asked Brown.

Davis was shocked and he started to sweat.

” Oh! I killed him alright! The man was my best friend, his name was Andy Gold, he had been troubling me for a while. He was blackmailing me for quite some time now. I had robbed a ring and a kilogram of gold from a shop. He was blackmailing me and I killed him.”

“You are under arrest,” said Roman.

Then Roman praised Brown. Nathan’s mother was given compensation for her sons loss.

Brown got promoted.

Davis was sentenced for twenty years of jail.

Nathan was injected with Arsenic according to the report.

This is the story of Brown.

The Red Liquid.
